Born and bred from Baltimore Maryland, I’m a widow, mother of 2, and bonus mom of 4.
I moved to South Florida in September 2015 after my children went off to college and
the passing of her husband in 2011, desiring to begin a new chapter of my life. My
mother unexpected died in January 2016, of a heart attack. Her brother, my
uncle, passed in May 2016 of pancreatic cancer.
After turning 50 in June 2017, I received a diagnoses of Triple Negative breast cancer on
July 13, 2017 and tested positive for the BRCA 1. I’ve had mammograms since the age
of 35 annually, but found the lump by self-breast examination. Immediately I began 5 months of chemotherapy and in December of 2017, I had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction (DIEP flap).
I have a host of siblings on both sides who have had breast, stomach, pancreatic, and prostate cancer, both maternal grandmothers had breast cancer. My life goal is to
support woman who have been diagnosed with this disease and to help them get
through it. To provide a free mammography, we partner with breast cancer
radiologists to provide 3D mammograms.
If diagnosed, we assist every Angel with obtaining health insurance to ensure that
they begin treatment of this disease. Educating, and advocating is the core
foundation of our organization.
ARTfullAngels recently partnered with South Florida’s Gilda’s Club to host a monthly breast cancer support group. Our mission is to provide support, continuing to bring awareness and help uninsured women to know that we walk together fighting this disease and it can be done!
We’re never alone, stronger together than apart.
I’ve worked in Healthcare for over 20 years, in medical education. Currently employed at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center as a Resident Program Coordinator in the
Emergency Department in Miami, Florida.
